Changing Habitats

Are you thinking about moving to the city?

I think I can help; my name is Alejandra; my mom took a very life-changing decision last year. I’ve lived in the rural area since, well, since I was born, let me tell you I actually enjoyed living there, but my mom had a thing on her mind, she was determined on searching for a better future for me, as you should know, the rural areas do not have really high education or health care quality, so it is difficult to do other things that are not agriculture or cattle raising.

My mom and I moved to the city a year ago, a friend of her who used to live in the rural area too helped us, and we are currently staying with her.

How different is my life now?

Let me tell you that the high school I go to is ginormous, really different from where I used to live, my itinerary obviously has changed, before coming her, I used to wake up at 7 am, then I had to go to school, which finished really early compared to the city school, at 12:30 pm I was already at home and I used to take care from my little chickens, and help my mom with the cows. Now let me tell you that I wake up at 6:30, so I can be on time to wait the bus, I finish school at 3:00 pm, and then I have lunch and do my homework, here we can have a better education, and it is taken seriously.

Pros and Cons of the city

Starting with the cons, from one year leaving here I can tell that de contamination is atrocious, I feel like I can’t breathe, there’s smog everywhere and a lot of noise, also people here are often stressed and, in a hurry, also sometimes the city can be unsafe, because of thieves, I have been robbed 2 times since I got here, one time was at the mall, they stole my wallet, and the other time was at the subway, they stole my phone.

Now the pros, as I already mention, the education here is top tier!

I also love the health benefits here, the other day, my mom had an accident and broke her leg, and it was amazing how quickly the ambulance got here, and the attention was superb, she is better if you ask, the food is delicious, I think that’s quite a benefit!

Advices

Finally, I would like to give you some advices that I wish I knew!

Have some money in your shoes or in a secret place, when the robbers stole my wallet, I had no money to get home and I had to call my mom, so she could pick me.

Things might be not cheap here, so you have to look for discounts and promos.

And finally, making friends is the best advice ever because even if you had your home, why can’t you have two? People in the city don’t bite,  and don’t forget where you come from and your home, they will always be for you.
